REVIEWS OF CLINICAL SPORTS MEDICINEThe Physician & Sportsmedicine - March, 1994, Vol 22, No 3, page 106 Stanley Herring MD, FACSM - Puget Sound Sports and Spine Physicians, Clinical Associate Professor Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics, University of Washington, Seattle, USA Not another sports medicine book' proclaim Peter Brukner and Karim Khan in the preface of Clinical Sports Medicine. They then proceed to demonstrate why their two-author text has merit in an increasingly crowded area of publication. Their argument is successful. Clinical Sports Medicine is very well written and cohesive and is divided into six major sections, each with several chapters. The major sections are 'Fundamental Principles', 'Regional Problems', 'Enhancing Sports Performance', 'Special Groups of Participants', 'Management of Medical Problems' and 'Practical Sports Medicine'. Their text is not encyclopaedic, nor are all problems covered in great detail. Drs Brukner and Khan provide suggested readings at the end of each chapter in lieu of formal references. |
